Kiel-Eckernförde & Kiel Cup 2004

“Alice” IMX 45 wins third year in a row
Once again in 2004 the competition was fierce in the big boat class, IMS 1, with a good turnout despite the IMS 600 Europeans was running parallel to it. The conditions ranged from 2 to 45 knots of breeze, pushing both crews and equipment to their limits.

Kiel-Eckernförde
“Alice” started out strong with a first in the mid-distance race; Kiel-Eckernförde, followed by “Varuna” IMX 45 and “Xenua” X-46. On the race back to Kiel the following day, “Alice” came in second just beaten on Handicap by “Rarotonga”, a Swan 46.

Kiel Cup
Hereafter started the Kiel Cup with a total of 7 windward-leeward races. “Alice” had a minor hick-up in the first race under very light and shifty conditions, finishing only in 4th. Here-after there was no stopping her, and she ended up with 5 firsts and one second. She was closely followed by X-46 “Varuna” that took a first and 5 seconds.

Senatspreis
From mid week the wind got stronger and stronger, culminating in 45 knots, but that did not stop “Alice”. The Senatspreis was won both by class and overall.

Round Fehmarn
Kiel week closed with the long distance race “Round Fehmarn”. During the windy race, only the Mumm 30 with her down wind surfing ability managed to beat “Alice” by 1min 3 sec on corrected time after almost 12 hours of racing.

Congratulations to IMX 45 “Alice” and her crew on another stunning performance.
